After you install your theme, be sure to activate your theme key by downloading and installing the WooCommerce Helper plugin. This will verify your site when contacting support and will enable 2-click updates for quick theme upgrades down the road.
Updating your Theme
It is very important to ensure you have the latest version of your theme at all times. This is the best way to proactively troubleshoot issues on your site.

In order to populate the homepage of your site as you see in the Shelflife demo you will need to first download, install and activate the WooCommerce plugin. Please read more about this here: Getting Started with WooCommerce
Adding Your Logo ↑ Back to top
You have two options when adding a logo to your site. You can either use a text based Site Title and optional Tagline or you can use an image based logo as shown in the demo.
To upload your own image based logo:
- Go to: Shelflife > Settings > General Settings > Quick Start > Custom Logo.
- Upload your logo image – we recommend using either a .jpg or .png for this.
- Save All Changes.
If you don’t have an image based logo, you have the option to add your Site Title and Tagline, you will find the settings for this just below the logo image upload area.
To enable the text based Site Title and Tagline:
- Go to: Settings > General to enter your site title and tagline.
- Go to: Shelflife > Settings > General Settings > Quick Start and select the box to enable the text based site title and tagline.
- Optionally Enable the site description and adjust the typography settings.
- Save All Changes.

Found in Shelflife > Settings > Homepage, the Homepage panel allows you to change settings that affect the base page of your site, i.e.
The first thing you will notice is that there are no products on your homepage – to get products to display, you need to add some products to your store.
Sliders ↑ Back to top
Shelflife includes a built-in slider feature, which allows you to add extra design flair to your site. These settings can be found at Shelflife > Settings > Sliders.
There are three types of slider in the Shelflife theme – Featured Products, Popular Products, and Promotions. Each has their own area available on the Slider settings page.
Featured Products Slider
This slider is used to show off your “Featured Products” – for example, your world-famous BBQ sauce, your iconic t-shirt, or just something you want to sell.
Before we change any settings, we have to mark some products as “Featured Products”. In your Products section, you will see an empty star field next to each item – selecting that star will mark the product as “Featured”. To remove the Featured status, select the star again to return it to the default state.
Once some items have been marked as Featured, navigate to Shelflife > Settings > Sliders > Featured Products. There, you will see two options where you can further customize your display.
After choosing the desired options, select Save Changes and refresh your home page.
Popular Products Slider
This slider is used to display your top selling products to customers, which could save shoppers valuable clicks and time. Go to Shelflife > Settings > Sliders > Popular Products. There, you will see two options where you can further customize your display.
This slider is used to display special sales and messages to customers. Navigate to Shelflife > Settings > Sliders > Promotions. There, you will see two options where you can further customize your display.
This sits just below your popular products and shows off any current promotions you have running. When you activate Shelflife it registers a custom post type called Promotions that you use to add these. Navigate to Promotions > Add New to get started.
You can enter a title here that will show up on the homepage, unlike the text in the edit window. This doesn’t show up on the homepage in the promotion slider. From here you can add a featured image if you are using the WP Post Thumbnail option.
Below this is the Excerpt window which is important to fill out. This is what displays below the title. Finally below that are the Shelflife Custom Settings. Here you can put the text and url for your call to action button.
Mini-Features ↑ Back to top
Below these three sliders is the mini-features area. Here you can highlight unique product or company features. You can link to either an image or video and both will open in a lightbox. To create a mini-feature navigate to Mini-Features > Add New.
Title your mini-feature and write a description in the mini-features excerpt box in the Shelflife Custom Settings panel. Next, set the Featured Image or Mini-Features image to set an image for your post. Then set a url for it to link to. From there you can also embed a video and a video url for the lightbox to use on the homepage.
More Products ↑ Back to top
To set the number of ‘More Products’ to display go to Shelflife > Settings > Homepage > Number of Products to Display.
Site Search ↑ Back to top
The search bar in Shelflife is found below the More Products section and includes your contact information. To add your shops phone number and email address to the search bar, go to Shelflife > Settings > Homepage.
Homepage Content ↑ Back to top
Go to Shelflife > Settings > Homepage to setup the blog section, number of blog posts to display, enable pagination and set the ‘More Posts’ page. When the pagination is disabled on the homepage, a More Posts button is displayed. This is the page which the ‘More Posts’ button links to.

The theme includes custom widgets that you can add to any of your widgetized regions. Go to Apperance > Widgets to add these to your theme. The custom woo widgets included are:

- Woo – Blog Author Info
- Woo – Embed/Video
- Woo – Subscribe/Connect
Layout Options ↑ Back to top
Found in Shelflife > Settings > Layout Options, the Layout Options panel allows you to choose which side of your display will contain the sidebar by default.
Dynamic Images ↑ Back to top
Found in Shelflife > Settings > Dynamic Images, the Dynamic Images panel allows you to change settings related to how your images will display on your site.
Footer Customization ↑ Back to top
Found in Shelflife > Settings > Footer Customization, the Footer Customization panel allows you to change default settings for your site’s global footer.
Footer Widget Areas determine how many Widgets can display in a single row across your footer. Widgets can be configured in the Appearance > Widgets section of your site.
In this panel, you can also choose to enable Custom Left/Right footers, which allow you to override the Widget system and hard code HTML in your footer.
Subscribe & Connect ↑ Back to top
Found in Shelflife > Settings > Subscribe & Connect, the Subscribe & Connect panel allows you to display social media icons that users can click on to share your content and increase your brand visibility.
Included in this panel are options for:
- Feedburner Email Subscriptions
- MailChimp Email Subscriptions
Advertising ↑ Back to top
Found in Shelflife > Settings > Advertising, the Advertising panel allows you to include custom ad space on your site using Adsense.
