Confirm your theme and WooFramework version by navigating to: Function > Framework

Activate your Theme Key ↑ Back to top

After installing the theme, activate your theme key by downloading and installing the WooCommerce Helper plugin. This will verify your site when contacting support and enable 2-click updates for quick theme upgrades.

Updating your theme

It’s important to have the latest version of your theme at all times. This is the best way to proactively troubleshoot issues on your site.

There are three menu areas in Function. To set up your menus, go to: Appearance > Menus. If you need help creating menus, see: Menus.

  • Primary Menu – Menu that sits below your logo.
  • Top Menu – Smaller menu area at the top of the theme.
  • Footer Menu – Menu that resides in the bottom right.

Set up the Header ↑ Back to top

The header area for Function gives you the option to display a logo, plus a search bar and WooCommerce cart on the right side.

Adding your Logo

You have two options when adding a logo to your site: Using a text-based Site Title and optional Tagline; or an image-based logo, as shown in the demo.

To upload an image-based logo:

  1. Go to: Function > Settings > General Settings > Quick Start > Custom Logo.
  2. Upload your logo image – We recommend using a .jpg or .png.
  3. Save All Changes.

If you don’t have a logo image, you can add a Site Title and Tagline.

To enable the text based Site Title and Tagline:

  1. Go to: Settings > General, which is just below the logo image upload area.
  2. Go to: Function > Settings > General Settings > Quick Start
  3. Select the box to enable a text-based site title and tagline.
  4. Optionally Enable the site description and adjust the typography settings.
  5. Save All Changes.

Search Bar

To enable the search bar:

  1. Go to: Function > Settings > Layout Options > Header
  2. Enable or disable to suit your preference.
  3. Choose what content to include.
  4. Save All Changes.

WooCommerce Cart

To enable the WooCommerce cart:

  1. Go to: Function > Settings > WooCommerce > General
  2. Enable or disable the cart to suit your preference.
  3. Save All Changes.

Set up the Slider ↑ Back to top

Function has a built-in featured slider that uses post tags to drive content.

To set post tags and adjust slider settings:

  1. Go to: Function > Settings > Featured Slider > Slider Content
  2. Enable or disable the slider at the top.
  3. Select the number of slides you want to show.
  4. Select the slider tag you want to use.
  5. Save All Changes.

To view additional featured slider settings, go to:
Function > Settings > Featured Slider > Slider Settings

After reviewing your slider setting options, you need to create a new post for the slider.

To create a new post for the slider:

  1. Go to: Posts > Add New

2. Select ‘featured slider tag’ in Settings > Featured Slider > Slide Tag.

3. Set a featured image. If you need instructions, see Featured Images.

4. To set a featured video, paste the embed code in the Function Custom Settings Panel as shown below. If you do not see the Function Custom Settings Panel, review your screen options in the top right corner of your Post > Edit page.

Set up the Homepage ↑ Back to top

Homepage settings give you the option to control the introductory message and blog posts, in addition to the promotion area and featured products for WooCommerce.

To enable or disable what you want to show on the homepage, go to:
Function > Settings > Homepage > Homepage Setup.

Introductory Message ↑ Back to top

You can write a short introductory message that appears under the featured slider (if enabled).

To set your introductory message, go to:
Function > Settings > Homepage > Introductory Message

Blog Posts ↑ Back to top

To include blog posts on the homepage, go to:
Function > Settings > Homepage > Blog Posts

  1. Select the number of posts to display.
  2. Enter the title of your Blog Area section.
  3. Optionally select a category of posts to display if the content type is set to Blog Posts.
  4. Save All Changes.

Promotion ↑ Back to top

This helps create a short promotional message and add a link to it on your homepage. You could use it to tell visitors about a giveaway on your blog, show off a portfolio post or announce new products added to the store.

To enable the promotion message, go to:
Function > Settings > Homepage > Promotion

  1. Enter a title for the promotion.
  2. Describe the promotion.
  3. Label the button.
  4. Paste the URL that the button should link to.
  5. Save All Changes.

Featured Products ↑ Back to top

Featuring products on your homepage can help customers find their favorite products faster or promote something special.

To enable featured products, go to:
Function > Settings > Homepage > Featured Products

  1. Select the number of products you want to show.
  2. Enter a title for the featured product section of your homepage.
  3. Save All Changes.
  4. Mark a product as featured. Go to: Products > Products and select the Star in the featured column.
  5. Alternatively select the Quick Edit option to see the Featured product box.

Using a Widgetized Homepage ↑ Back to top

Widgetized HomepageYou can optionally utilize the Homepage Widget area. To add widgets or reorder them on the homepage, go to: Appearance > Widgets in your dashboard and drag widgets into the Homepage widget area in the right column.

There’s also an option to add content via the Woo Component widget. Options for Function theme include: Blog Posts, Intro Message, Promotional Message and Featured Products.

Note: Using the Appearance > Widgets – Homepage widget area will automatically override default homepage modules and settings once you add a widget to the homepage widget area.

Set up the Portfolio ↑ Back to top

Function includes our standard portfolio options, allowing you to add and showcase your photography, videography, design work, books, websites and much more. Let’s review settings before adding any portfolio posts.

To create a Portfolio:

Create new Page > Set ‘Portfolio’ page template.
Create new Page > Set ‘Portfolio’ page template.
  1. Go to: Pages and select Add New.
  2. Enter a Title for your portfolio page.
  3. Under Page Attributesselect the Portfolio page template.
  4. Publish the page.

If you want to use Portfolio Galleries, go to: Portfolio > Portfolio Galleries and add galleries, which are essentially categories for your portfolio posts.

To set up options for your portfolio:

  1. Go to: Function > Settings > Portfolio
  2. Set the base URL for your portfolio items, then go to: Permalinks and Save
  3. Optionally select a gallery to be featured in your portfolio template.
  4. Exclude galleries with gallery category slugs.
  5. Exclude portfolio posts from the site search.
  6. Select whether to link portfolio items to the post or the lightbox.
  7. Enable or disable pagination on the portfolio page.
  8. Save All Changes.

To enable features on the homepage, you need to install Features. Once installed, follow instructions at Features Plugin to add features to your homepage.

Testimonials ↑ Back to top

To enable Testimonials, you need to install Testimonials. Once installed, follow instructions at Testimonials Plugin to add new testimonials, which only work in the Function theme’s Testimonials Widget. After testimonials have been added, go to: Appearance > Widgets and add the Testimonials Widget to any widgetized region.
